This month’s film: Inherit the Wind (1960)
A film based on a Broadway play by Jerome Lawarence and Robert Evan Lee, inspired by the Scopes “monkey” trial of 1925. Teacher Bertram Cates has been arrested for teaching evolution in his high school biology class, a direct violation of state law. Matthew Harrison Brady and Henry Drummond travel to “heavenly Hillsboro” to argue the case. Who will win the battle: Science, or the Bible? Starring Frederic March and Spencer Tracy at the height of their powers.
