CARING MINISTRIES

Stephen Ministry provides one-to-one Christian care to individuals struggling with grief, divorce, loneliness, relocation, hospitalization, terminal illness, or unemployment.

Hospital Callers are Stephen Ministers who have volunteered to receive special additional training in order to visit people in the hospital.

Bereavement Team is a group of concerned members who minister through caring for those who have had a recent death in their family. They make sure that food and hospitality are provided at funerals.

Health Ministry is a group of people who identify health needs and concerns in the congregation and develop periodic programs to promote wellness. The team's programs have included a health fair, blood pressure testing, nutrition education, and helpful educational newsletter articles.

Hospitality Team. To enhance our Congregational Life experience Good Shepherd offers numerous forms of hospitality to our members and visitors. The Hospitality Team monitors the use, stocking, and equipping of the kitchens and discerns other ways to support the caring ministries of Good Shepherd.

Parish Visitors are individuals or couples who provide Christian fellowship by visiting assigned homebound people on a monthly basis. Parish Visitors also call their assigned person once or twice each month to keep them a part of our community and check on their well-being.

Food For Members. Occasionally, there are members and friends of Good Shepherd who, due to illness or the recent delivery of a baby, need meals (or special food items) delivered to their homes. We have a number of members that have volunteered to do this when the need arises. We also have a freezer in the church building that is restocked with food items for use in this ministry.

Prayer Chain Participant. Participants take a moment of their day to offer prayer on behalf of others. They pray for concerns or joys that are communicated to the staff and leadership of Good Shepherd. There are two Prayer Chains: 1) a phone chain through which participants verbally pass along the prayer request; and 2) an e-mail chain.
