 THE EDGE HOUSE @ UC

 The Edge House at the University of Cincinnati is a ministry of and to the church universal and sponsored by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Students, faculty, and staff of UC from all denominations, faiths, and lack-of-faiths are welcome at The Edge House. Our mission is to provide a safe, hospitable place for faith-wrestling, doubt, conversation, and napping.  The house itself has many spaces to relax, study, play, and converse. We have WiFi, fairly-traded free coffee, an extensive religious library, and the Listening Bench on the MLK side of the house.

What's 'Alternative Spring Break'? - Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Why spend all that money on transportation when it could do good here in the Queen City? Join us for a week of volunteering (after dinner March 18-before dinner March 24) with the Freestore/Foodbank, Matthew 25 Ministries, The Civic Garden Center, Gabriel's Place, Building Value, and a river clean-up with WAVE. In the evenings, we'll split our time between touristy fun in Cincinnati and deeper conversations about the nature of poverty and inequality (may include a tour of underground Cincinnati...). We'll be staying at First Lutheran Church in Over the Rhine and treating the trip like a more distant service trip, so no going back to your dorm for something you forgot. The money we save by staying in town will be divided among the agencies we serve. Cost of the trip is only $25, due by February 19, 2012. We have a total of 47 spaces available, with 16 being reserved for Edge House regulars, first-come-first-served. (Your space will be reserved when we receive your $25.)  HERE ARE WAYS TO SERVE!

Have some free time in the afternoons or evenings? Volunteer at the Edge House, we’d love to see you! Current needs include Thursday evenings from 4:30-7:00PM and Friday afternoons from noon-1:30pm. You’ll be “holding down the fort”—keeping the house open and occupied for the students who come by, answering the phone, perhaps completing a few clerical tasks around the house. We have wifi, comfy couches, and usually delicious food and beverage. Please email or call Pastor Alice for more information or to offer your time.
